Carlos Maldonado, PhD – Chief Learning Architect

Dr. Maldonado brings a unique and varied background to the company. After receiving his degree in Piano Performance from the Royal College of Music in London, England, he achieved recognition as an award winning classical pianist touring Europe, the US, and Latin America. He then returned to the academic world and combined his interest in technology with his love of music and teaching, receiving a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has held music professorships at the National Pedagogic University and Los Andes University, in Bogotá, Colombia, the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and as Assistant Professor of Music Technology and Director of Online Education at California State University, Northridge. Carlos also has a business background, having founded and run TEMPO Music and Art Bookstore in Bogotá, Colombia and MUSITEC (Music and Technology) in Madrid, Spain. In 1997, he co-founded CFE, combining music, instructional technology, and business to create the leading source of online music educational materials in the US.

Dongsook Whitehead – President and CEO

President and CEO of Connect For Education, Inc. Education background includes English Literature, Music and graduate work in Instructional Media and Design from California State University. She served as the Managing Director of Korean-American Business Institute where she designed and executed management training programs. Dongsook and Dr. Carlos Maldonado founded Connect For Education in 1997, with one main objective in mind—to create a completely integrated and efficient learning environment that not only duplicates the traditional education paradigm online, but enhances the overall teaching and learning experience using the Internet as a distributed learning platform. In addition to the management of the company, Dongsook is involved in all aspects of course development with an emphasis on the instructional strategy and design areas. She is also responsible for the higher education market management.

John Wulff

Mr. John R. Wulff serves CFE as our financial administrator. He received his undergraduate degree in Business Management in May 2001 from Radford University in Radford, Virginia. John hails from a musical family and enjoys all kinds of musical experiences, especially the learning obtained from self-paced dimension of online musical instruction offered through CFE’s many courses. In June 2003 he joined CFE and plays an active role in the development of management strategies, office management, and the overall financial plan of the company.

Maria Paz

Mrs. Maria Paz leads our sales and marketing team. She received her undergraduate degree in International Studies with a minor in Rhetoric and Communication Studies from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia. Moreover, she holds a Master’s degree in International Commerce and Policy from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. In 2005 she joined CFE and plays an active role in the development of marketing and sales strategies, specifically in Spanish-speaking segments of the United States and Latin America.

Elizabeth Washington

Elizabeth Washington has over 12 years of experience in Software Technical Support. After graduating from Framingham State College with a Bachelor of Science in Food & Nutrition. Elizabeth became a Registered Dietitian and provided nutritional care in the acute care setting for a short time. Her clinical background and interest in the Information Technology field then led her to Picis, Inc., a growing healthcare information technology firm. While at Picis, Elizabeth held both Product Management and Customer Support Management roles and quickly earned a reputation for being highly customer focused and results driven. Elizabeth joined C4E in the Summer of 2012. She leads our Technical Support team. Elizabeth is excited to bring a fresh outlook and new ideas to the company!

Bryan McElhaney

Bryan McElhaney attended the Eastman School of Music where he received his B.M. degree and a Performer’s Certificate. He went on to play in different symphony orchestras and taught at various levels including as Adjunct Professor at Baldwin Wallace University in Berea, OH. Throughout his career, he has performed and recorded with many musicians such as Wynton Marsalis, Al Hirt and Doc Severinsen. A longtime advocate of music technology in education, Bryan left teaching and playing professionally to join Avid Technology as Southern Region Education Sales Manager. While at Avid, he gave numerous clinics and trainings to K-20 educators on Sibelius, Pro Tools, and M-Audio products. He went on to join SoundTree, the Educational Division of KORG USA, where he was responsible for incorporating music technology labs in dozens of schools throughout the Central U.S. Bryan joined Connect For Education in September of 2012 as Sales and Marketing Manager. When he’s not on the road for C4E, he lives in Austin, TX with his wife and two children.

Susie Sohn

Mrs. Susie Sohn serves CFE as graphic designer. She received her undegraduate degree in Graphic Design from Pratt Institute, in Brooklyn, NY. Susie has been working as a freelance graphic designer since 2003, designing websites, brochures, DVD covers, and annual resports for design firms and small businesses.

John Kline

John Kline has over a decade of experience in academic technology sales and marketing. After graduating from Yale University, John spent several years teaching at Southern Oregon University. His use of technology in the classroom made him a sought after clinician and eventually led to his joining Avid – a leading music and video technology company with deep penetration in many market segments, including education. At Avid, John had leadership roles in developing key aspects of the education business, including the formation of a site licensing program for software sales, the development of a cross-brand integration plan for selling Avid solutions into k-college, and transitioning education sales from a direct to a reseller/partner focus. John joined Connect for Education in the fall of 2010.

Christopher Gaines

Chris Gaines is a system/network engineer at Connect for Education. He is responsible maintaining the systems and exploring new technology for the company. He has been in the computer industry for over 14 years and has a background multiple areas of Information Technology.
