How to Copy Your Course Cartridge

How to Copy Your Course Materials from One Course to Another

Before you start, it is important to know two Blackboard terms: ‘source course’ and ‘destination course’.

  • Source course: the course that contains the materials that you want to copy
  • Destination course: the course to which you want to move your materials

To copy course materials from one course to another, you will need to be enrolled in both courses (the source course and the destination course) as either an instructor or a teaching assistant.

  1. Log into your Blackboard account.
  2. Go to your source course. The source course is the course that contains the materials that you want to copy.
  3. Under the Control Panel menu, click Packages and Utilities, and click Course Copy.
  4. Select “Copy Course Materials into a New Course or an Existing Course” from the Select Copy Type drop down menu. The “Existing Course” option is used when an empty course shell has already been built.
  5. Click the “Browse” button to locate the destination course. The destination course is the course to which you want to move your materials.

Select your destination course and click Submit.

  6. Course Materials – At the minimum, you will want to copy over the following materials:-
    Content Areas
    - Grade Center Columns and Settings
    - Tests, Survey, and Pools
  7. Depending on your course setup you may want to copy more materials than what is highlighted below. If you have any questions on which Course Materials items to select, please consult with your school’s Blackboard Administrator or Instructional Designer.

  8. Do NOT select “Enrollments.”
  9. You MUST select “Course Cartridge Materials.”
  10. When you are ready to copy the course, click Submit.
